Scientists To Get Fast-Tracked In United Kingdom If Immigration System Goes As Planned

The United Kingdom has been planning on exiting the European Union for years already and the schedule was supposed to be sometime early this year. However, that has not happened yet. News has it that it would be happening by October of this year. This may be one of the big issues that people are focusing on but Boris Johnson, the current Prime Minister of the UK has set his sights on another important thing – an immigration system that would fast-track the best scientists in the world to get their visas and start working in the country.

The Prime Minister has already told the Home Office as well as the BEIS that they should already be working on a good plan that would enable them to have an immigration system that would make things go faster. This is planned to be launched sometime this year. This new immigration system is aimed at bringing in scientists and researchers to the United Kingdom and they would replace those professionals from the European Union who may be leaving because of the exit. At present, the country has around 211,000 scientists and half of those are from the EU.

Maintaining to be a superpower in science

Johnson recently said that the whole plan for a new immigration system is based on the goal to have the United Kingdom maintain its current standing as a superpower when it comes to global science. He understands that scientists from the European Union would be leaving the country once the exit happens and he wants to ensure that the work on science continues. With a fast-track system able to bring in the best and the brightest scientists and researchers from all parts of the globe to the UK, the work can continue despite the EU scientists leaving.

The community of science and research in the United Kingdom has always been one of the best in the world and it is important to maintain that. Johnson believes that this community may be big but it still has a huge chance of developing and making things better. He also has a belief that this community will also be strengthened and soon they would be able to share and export any innovations that have been developed to the rest of the world.

The goal

Johnson also continued that the move is all to help the United Kingdom maintain its standing as a superpower when it comes to global science. The scientific community may suffer if the EU scientists and researchers will be leaving after the exit and so the immigration system would help them keep the work going by bringing in the needed experts. Scientists can make it to the UK faster with the new system and start doing their work in the country.
