UK Restrictions On Immigration Can Make Country Suffer, Says Merkel

There may be people pushing for the United Kingdom to go through with its plans on exiting the European Union as they believe that this will help lessen the amount of immigrants in the country. This should also be quite beneficial in making sure that the country has complete control over its own borders. However, there is a downside to this and if people are going to do a study on this possible move by the UK, they would not be happy with what they would be able to find.

According to Angela Merkel, she stated that the country will have to “pay a price” once the government decides to put a limit on the immigration of EU residents right after the exit happens. This has been the recent statement of Merkel. Merkel is a politician from Germany and holds the position as Chancellor of the country.

The EU would make its move

Merkel has been looking at the situation and if the United Kingdom decides to push through with its plans of exiting the European Union, she believes that the European Union would be doing something about it. See, she states that the EU would be making sure that its own interests are protected and by protecting its interests, surely, the UK would have to face obstacles later on. This is definitely something that the country has  to prepare for if it decides to continue with the plans.

It may look like a real threat to the country, however, Merkel shares that this is not a threat but she is definitely just stating what could really happen. Immigration has been a big thing for the United Kingdom and this has been quite a benefit for the economy. However, there are groups who believe that immigration has been too much. They do not really see the benefits that do come with having immigrants in the country.

Free movement in the UKtt

In continuing her statement, Merkel has disclosed that by stifling immigration to the United Kingdom, the country is actually also stifling free movement and that is something that the UK would not be able to afford. This is quite true as immigrants have been very essential in filling a huge portion of the labor force in the country. Businesses have been more than happy to employ immigrants as they are known to be quite skilled and also hard workers.

There have been no final decisions as of present on this issue. The government of the UK should be looking into the matter as the economy would definitely be one of the first to suffer when the “control” that the government has been trying to claim should be theirs.
