United Kingdom Shows Immigration Story With Museum

Many people in the United Kingdom believe that immigration is simply immigration. However, what most people do not know is that immigration is a big part of lives of individuals in the country. It is found in London and it is known as the Migration Museum. The people behind the museum are positive that their current location will just be temporary and they are looking forward to finding a venue where the museum would be placed permanently.

Behind the immigration museum

The person who heads this project used to be a judge for immigration. On this, he says that in the United Kingdom, you will find a story about immigration or immigrants in any family’s history. That is quite true as the country has had a really long history when it comes to immigration. And that means that through the years, the country has welcomed quite a huge amount of immigrants and these immigrants have been interacting with the locals. So it would be quite safe to say that there is an immigration story hidden somewhere among all families in the UK.

It is important to note though that this museum is not the first in the country. In fact, there are other museums on immigration that you can find in Britain. A good example would be the one in East London which focuses on the diversity of culture in the country. This one already gets over 10,000 visitors annually. So the hopes for this new one is quite high.

The plans for the museum

This Migration Museum is currently using a venue for free. It will be using this for at least one year. Of course, there are still major plans going on so nothing definite yet for future plans. Although, one of the top things that the director of the museum is working on is finding a place that the museum could call its permanent home. Sophie Henderson is the director and this is something on her plate at present.

There will be two exhibits when the museum opens and it will be focused, of course, on immigration. One would be the exhibit titled One Hundred Images of Migration. This one focuses on immigration to the country and shows photographs from both amateurs and professionals.
