Munich: A City Of Employment That Immigrants In Germany Need To Know About

Immigrants who move to various countries do that for a variety of reasons. Some of these people are fleeing their home country because of war or famine or anything that they want to move away from. There are also people who are moving to a new country to get the kind of education that they have always wanted to have. There are those who are moving because the new country is where their loved ones are already living. And then there are also those immigrants who have moved because of career opportunities, which is the case for many immigrants who are in Germany.

Germany is a huge country and one of the top cities where people choose to go to is Munich. This city has been a constant favorite especially among those who are looking for career opportunities or for jobs. Munich is one of the biggest cities in the country and it is home to many people looking for greener pastures.

What is in Munich?

Munich is the biggest city in Bavaria and it is a place for that many potential employees flock to. This city is also known around the world for being one of the top cities in terms of industry especially in the fields of engineering, health, and technology. It is a hub for many people who are in Germany and are looking for opportunities. And with Munich being the center for many great businesses, it is not surprising why plenty of immigrants and locals choose to go there.

The statistics for 2013 have shown that there were more than 750,000 individuals who were employed and working in this big city in Germany. A huge portion of them was involved in various industries – and most of these employees were in the industries of communication, transportation, entertainment, government, science, and trade. The biggest group of employees in Munich for that year were involved in manufacturing.

Cost of living in the city of Munich

Living in Munich can be a bit costly if it was compared to most of the cities in Germany. It is a good thing though that wages in this big city is greater than the average wage in the entire country. This is primarily because of the employees in the place that are very much qualified, thus the high salaries. So this means that despite the high cost of living in this city, people here also get to enjoy higher earnings and have seemingly unlimited job options. This balances everything out or even leans toward the positive side of things, making the city a great place for work in Germany.  Definitely not surprising why plenty of locals and immigrants choose to go here rather than other cities or places in the country.

The University Of British Columbia: One Of The Schools In Canada That Immigrant Students Go To

Education is something that a lot of people wish to have. Some are lucky enough to be able to get the education that they want to have while there are others who can only go to school for a few year levels or for primary education but never really be able to take higher education because of a variety of reasons. Some are lucky enough to push on with their ambitions and take further education because they have the capacity to do so and there are those who are even luckier to study in the school that they have been eyeing. Canada has been one of the top countries in the world where immigrant students choose to get their education.

Canada is home to many outstanding colleges and universities that offer some of the best programs in the world. Many immigrant students opt to apply and enroll in one of these colleges and universities as the education system in the country is recognized the whole world over. One of the universities chosen often by these immigrant students is the University of British Columbia.

Where is the University of British Columbia?

The University of British Columbia is known as one of the oldest universities in Canada, and it is also known as a university that is very competitive. It also has two campuses – one is based in Kelowna and the other one is in Vancouver. The Vancouver campus has 12 faculties while the Kelowna campus has seven.

The Vancouver campus is known as the main campus and it is located near a number of beaches and offers students who go here a chance to enjoy beautiful views of mountains in the North Shore. The campus also has several memorial gardens and botanical gardens that are worth visiting. It is also home to a performing arts center that is renowned in the country and the entire world.

What other things is the university known for?

There are several scholarships being offered by the University of British Columbia. One of these is the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award that is often awarded to students who are from countries torn by war. Aside from this, this university in Canada is also proud to have eight winners of the Nobel prize associated with them. It also has 71 scholars of Rhodes and also 65 holders of Olympic medals.

The university is also where one can find the biggest cyclotron in the entire world. The cyclotron is a kind of particle accelerator and it is found in the national laboratory of Canada for nuclear physics and particle physics.

The University of British Columbia is also proud to have three prime ministers of the country finishing programs with them. The present prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, holds a bachelor's degree in education from the university.

Smoking, Socialization At Work: The New Zealand Culture Immigrants Need To Know About

The culture of a country is very important especially for those who are planning on moving there and living there. Culture is embedded in the daily life of people in a country or an area and so to be armed with information about that would be a very helpful thing especially for those who are planning on becoming immigrants. In the case of New Zealand, the culture here is really not that different as compared to other Western countries. But there are still some things that one may need to be familiar with so as to be able to cope with living in this country.

Two of the things that immigrants need to know about life and culture in New Zealand that are quite important are smoking and socialization at work. These are very important topics and should be learned by immigrants, especially those who may have a habit of smoking and those who are in the country for work.

Smoking

While in other countries smoking is very much a common sight, smoking in New Zealand is quite rare. It is also not allowed in public buildings and these include restaurants and bars. So individuals who wish to have a smoke should do it outdoors. However, it is expected that a person who may want to smoke should ask other people around them if they mind. This is the polite thing to do and is known as common courtesy.

New Zealand has been working on making the quality of life better for everyone in the country so it has been supportive of programs that help people quit smoking.

Socialization at work

In the workplace, having morning tea or afternoon tea with colleagues is common. This is oftentimes done to celebrate a person’s birthday or some milestone achieved by a team in the office. If there is a celebration for the entire team, it is common for people to bring food which they would share with everybody else. The term in New Zealand for this is “bringing a plate”, which means bringing food to share.

After the end of the week, which falls on Friday, drinks shared between friends or colleagues is a common thing in the country as well. Most of the time, drinks happen with colleagues. Sometimes, it is okay to bring a family member of a special someone or a friend with the group but it is always best to ask first if it is okay to do that. It is also important to understand that when drinks are shared, shop talk is often kept to a minimum. It is a way of relaxing and the start of enjoying the weekend so topics about work are something that people necessarily do not talk about.

The secret to moving to New Zealand can be found here at Global Visa Support’s programs made especially to help you do just that: http://globalvisasupport.com/nz.html.

Beer And Cider: Thirsty Immigrants In The United Kingdom Should Try These

Thirst can come to anyone and for a lot of people, especially those who have to do work five days a week at least, a little rest and relaxation would be good. The best way to quench that thirst and get rest and relaxation would be to get some drinks after working through a difficult day or maybe after working through a tough week. Immigrants in the United Kingdom are quite lucky since the country is home to some of the best drinks that the world has to offer.

Two of the most popular liquor all around the world are made and offered in the United Kingdom. these are beer and cider. Many people in the country have this when they are ready to relax and these drinks can easily be found in pubs and bars and even restaurants all around the country. These can also be bought in liquor stores as well as in grocery shops. The world also is familiar with these drinks.

Beer

The beer in the United Kingdom is also known as British beer or as bitter. It was discovered during the early part of the 13th century in the country when yeast, sugar, and hops were brewed. Since its discovery, beer has become quite a popular drink not only in the United Kingdom but in many countries all around the world as well.

In the UK alone, those who drink beer can be categorized into two. There are those who opt to go with lager beer which is known to be a bit light. Lager, though, is made outside the country. And then there are those people who drink beer and prefer to have the local bitter beer. Bitter beer is said to be more flavorful and those who are fans of it know where the beer has been brewed in the UK and would choose to go with local beers over any other beer in the market.

Cider

Cider is not as popular as beer but it does have its own following which is gradually growing with each year. It is alcohol but it can taste on the side of juices given its fruity taste. Thanks to the lush lands of the United Kingdom, there are a lot of orchards and farms that grow organic fruits used to make cider. The most common fruit used for this is apple.

This drink is known to be on the earthy side and is quite refreshing. It is best to drink it chilled and a glass just would not be enough. People in the United Kingdom prefer to have this when they are out on a picnic or when they are at the fair or just plain hanging out in the garden. Since it is refreshing, it is most preferred by the locals during the summer.

Flexibility In Work Permits And Study Permits In Canada Introduced, Good News For Immigrants

Many individuals all over the world have been planning and working on making their way to Canada as immigrants who will study there or work there. This is the country’s way of adjusting and adapting to the new normal that has been caused by the pandemic brought about by the novel coronavirus. These plans from Canada are focused on helping potential immigrants continue on with their plans of studying or working in the country despite the pandemic.

This is definitely good news because it means that the country is starting to reopen its borders and is also making sure that it brings in the needed immigrants. Canada has been reliant on immigrants to help with the workforce and with its population. It is also a good thing for people who would like to be immigrants in the country. This will be an opportunity for them to push on with their plans and make their way to the country.

Update for student immigrants

According to the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC for short), the country of Canada has made sure that there are measures to help immigrants continue on with their plans. There are three main measures that are connected to the country’s Post-Graduation Work Permit, made available for those immigrant students who are taking their programs online from a school in Canada since there are still restrictions because of the pandemic.

With the changes, immigrant students can take their programs online in their home countries or wherever they may be until the end of April 2021. No time will be subtracted from their PGWP. However, the students should complete in Canada half of their studies. Also, immigrant students who have enrolled in a program that is only for 8 to 12 months and starts anytime from May to September of this year can complete their program outside Canada and still be able to use the PGWP. Aside from these, immigrant students in a program that started any time from May to September of this year and took the program online until the end of April 2021 and finished another eligible program in the country can add up the total length of the programs taken when applying for the PGWP. However, half of the studies should be done in Canada.

The PGWP

Many immigrant students in Canada really try their very best to be eligible for the PGWP. When an immigrant student is able to finish a program eligible for the PGWP from an educational institution in Canada that is also eligible for the program, he or she can take advantage of the PGWP for three years maximum. The length of the PGWP is dependent on how long an immigrant student’s program is. This also allows immigrant students to get actual work experience to apply whatever they have learned from studying in the country.

Religion, Symbolism, And Literature: Three Things About Germany That Immigrants Need To Learn About

Germany is one of the countries in Europe that has been a strong force to reckon with when it comes to the economy. It is also known for having a culture that is strong and well-preserved. That is why it is not surprising that plenty of people go to the country as tourists to experience life there for a short amount of time. And then there are those who go to Germany as immigrants because it is where they have found greener pastures.

Here are three things about Germany that are worth learning since these are a part of the country’s culture.

Religion

More than half of the population of Germany consider themselves to be Christians at around 65% to 70%. 29% of these people are Catholics. Muslims are a minority at 4.4%. Around 36% of the population in the country say that they do not see themselves being a part of any religion or do not belong to Muslim or Christianity. This definitely means that immigrants in the country who are Christians, Muslims, or do not affiliate themselves with any religion would be able to find people who have the same beliefs in the country.

Symbolism

The symbols of Germany have been changing through its history, thanks to events that have had big impacts on its traditions as well as its culture. One of these symbols was the eagle which was used during the Holy Roman Empire.

People have also been looked at as symbols or icons of the country and these include Martin Luther, John Gottfried von Herder, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, and Immanuel Kant who have been important individuals and have served as icons in their own rights.

At present, the most significant symbol of the country is its flag that bears the colors black, red, and yellow (or gold).

Literature

Literacy is quite high in Germany and that is not surprising given that this country is known for being one of the top in the entire world in terms of reading. The publishers in the country publish about 94,000 new books annually. Aside from this, the most important event for books in the entire world is also being held in the country – and this is the International Frankfurt Book Fair.

The country is also the holder of a quite huge title in the world of literature. See, the very first book was actually printed in the German language. The same goes true for the very first magazine.

Another interesting fact about literature in Germany is that almost half of the population of Germany (around 44.6%) read one book at the very least each week. Aside from this, more than half of the population (at 58.3%) of the country purchase one book at least each year.

Say What?: Lingo In Canada That Immigrants Need To Learn

English and French are the two major languages spoken in Canada. Despite that, most of the people in the country know how to speak English, a language that is spoken all over the world. This has made immigrants able to adapt easily and communicate well with the people in the country. Immigrants in Canada definitely know that to be able to get by, one has to be able to communicate properly especially in a new place so they can get information on things that they do not know about.

Despite English being a widely spoken language in Canada, there are things that immigrants still have to understand. The country also has its own lingo and so immigrants should also learn the local lingo for them to be able to understand what the locals are saying and how they can also communicate well with the locals. There are plenty of lingo in Canada, given that English is such a dynamic language. Here are some of them.

Eh?

This is pronounced as “ay”. It is quite a common term and is a classic. It is often used daily by plenty of locals. The term is used by a person when he or she does not quite understand something or if they cannot believe that something is true or real. It is also used by people if they want the other person they are speaking with to respond. It is said to be the Canadian version of the United States’ “right?”, “what?”, and “huh?”.

To get to the goal, I must take fifteen leaps, eh?

Loonie (or a toonie)

When someone in Canada says that they have a loonie, it means that they have a coin worth $1. This term is taken from a bird that is native to Canada and can be found on one side of the $1 coin.

The toonie is a term used to call the coin worth $2. This name is taken from the loonie and was tweaked so that it sounds rhyming.

It is important to understand that loonies and toonies in Canada are used to refer to money (the coins with certain value) and they are far from the terms loonies and toonies that are used in the United States (which often refer to cartoons).

All I got is a loonie. I wonder what I can buy with it.

I’ll give you a toonie if you grab me a beer from the fridge.

Timmies

When someone in Canada uses the term “Timmies,” they are referring to Tim Hortons, the famous coffee and food chain. Everyone in the country knows Tim Hortons and it is the best place to get Timbits, which is actually donut holes. These are perfect with the chain’s coffee.

I got some Timbits from Timmies. Wanna have some?
