In many countries, biometrics is used by
companies and agencies to be able to know attendance of people. Biometrics
actually is a term that is used for measuring parts of the body and can also be
used to refer to the data that is connected with the characteristics of each
individual human. It is used to authenticate identity. So for those who have
been watching movies, one can definitely see how biometrics is used by big
companies for people to gain access to private rooms or top security spots in
buildings.
Now, with the advancement of technology,
biometrics is now being used for a lot of things and now it includes using it
for immigration data. According to the most recent news, starting the 31st of
July, biometrics will now be used by those who are applying for visas in
Canada. They will be required to provide fingerprints as well as a photo. Those
who are applying for visas and are from the Middle East, Africa, and Europe
will have to provide such.
The
need for identification
The data that would be provided by the
applicants will be their fingerprints and their photo. It will be used to
identify themselves. Aside from the Middle East, Africa and Europe, this
requirement will now be asked of all of the applicants who will be coming from
the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Asia and it will be asked starting the end of
the year, December 31st. Those who will be coming from countries that are
exempted from getting visas to be able to go to Canada just for travel purposes
will not be asked of such. This would be because they would have with them an
eTA which is known as the Electronic Travel Authorization and it should be
valid for these people to be able to get to the country. Once they have this,
they can go to the country without the need for biometrics.
As per the government of Canada,
biometrics is actually a way for them to make sure that the whole process would
be faster and would also be a lot simpler. This is especially true for those
who are just travelling and are known as low-risk. It would make sure that
things would go smoothly and swiftly and not too much time would be spent on
waiting for the documents and the approval to be processed.
Giving
out biometrics
Those who would be traveling to the country
just to get a grasp of what it is about before applying to be an immigrant must
be able to provide the data for biometrics as required. This is especially true
if the person is 14 years old to 29 years old. If it is a case of asylum, then
there is no limit when it comes to age – all must provide biometrics data.
