Canada Aims At Even More Diversified Immigrant Student Population

Canada has a new strategy and this one is all about the immigrant student population in the country. According to the federal government, the country’s new strategy will run for five years and it is all about bringing in a more diverse group of immigrant students getting accepted and being in the country to get an education. The government of Canada believes that this plan would further improve diversity in the country, develop innovation with these brilliant, young minds, as well as create strong global ties.

This new strategy has been announced to the public earlier this week. It reflects how important immigrant students are in Canada. The numbers of the current immigrant students in Canada show that there are around 570,000 individuals who are holders of study permits. These individuals have been able to bring in more than $21 billion to the economy of the country just for this year alone. The country surely has been benefitting from these individuals – the same as these students benefitting from the country. It definitely is a win-win situation.

The new aim that comes with the new plan

According to the federal government of Canada, the main aim of the new plan is to be able to bring in a variety of immigrants who come from different countries all around the world. The whole plan has a budget that is worth $148 million. $30 of such will be used to recruit the needed immigrants to join the country as students. Canada is home to some of the best colleges and universities around the world that has updated programs available for immigrant students.

At present, more than half of the international students in Canada is from India and China. Most of them are studying in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. As per the new plan, the country is going to recruit more individuals from other countries like Colombia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Morocco, France, Ukraine, Turkey, Thailand, the Philippines, Brazil, and Mexico. It also aims to have these students study not only in the mentioned cities in Canada but also have them studying in other cities and provinces. Most of the immigrant students are flocking to urban centers when there are other great colleges and universities in the country that are outside these areas.
