This is as per a recent announcement from the country’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, Sean Fraser.

 

The strategy from the Canadian government comes with what they call the “innovation stream” and this is about granting open work permits that are valid for up to a maximum of five years. This can be granted to tech professionals who have high skills and whose expertise is what the country’s tech industry needs. This applies to occupations that are in high demand in the country. The country’s strategy also includes work permits that are employer-specific and would be valid for five years as well. This would be awarded to tech talents who have already been given a job by tech companies in the country.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development did a study this year and the results showed that Canada has become the top destination for immigrants who are also entrepreneurs. This shows that Canada is quite appealing to many individuals who are looking for a good location to start their ventures.

 

The pathways that have been opened would also be extended to individuals who have the US H-1B specialty occupation visa. They can send in their applications for work permits in Canada. This would be open starting the 16th of July and would continue to be open for around a year or until the country gets 10,000 applications, whichever comes first.
