New Record Set For Immigration In Nova Scotia, Canada For 2018

For 2018, Nova Scotia in Canada has a new record when it comes to immigration. Last year alone, the province was able to award 5,970 individuals a permanent residency status. That number is now the new record for the province. The data is as per information from the local government of Nova Scotia. This sure means that there are plenty of immigrants who really have worked their way to becoming permanent residents and have proven that they are worth it.

The old record that held the highest amount of immigrants to be given such a status was set at 5,485 people and this was back in 2016. Now, two years later, there is now an almost 500 increase in the total number of folks given such. Surely, this reflects just how many immigrants are in Nova Scotia. Just imagine just how many more are in the entire country of Canada. The number surely can be quite staggering.

The way to Nova Scotia

According to the Office of Immigration of this Canadian province, over 65% of those individuals who were given permanent residency statuses actually went their way to the area via two programs. These two programs are the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (which is also known as the AIP), and the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (which is more known as the NSNP).

The AIP is focused on bringing in immigrants based on what employers in the area are looking for. So basically, this would be bringing in skilled immigrant workers to help out the businesses. This was first introduced to the public and took effect back in 2017. This program allowed employers to actually bring in skilled workers from other countries if there were not enough locals to do the job. They could also hire previous immigrant students in Canada who are still looking for employment in the country if these individuals were already finished with their program and hold the skills that the employers need.

As for the NSNP, this is part of the Provincial Nominee Program of Canada that gives provinces in the country to nominate any immigrant in the country to become a candidate for permanent residency.

The take on the increase

Lena Metlege Diab works as the Immigration Minister for Nova Scotia. On this recent announcement, Diab has said that the agency is happy that there has been an increase for 2018 and it has been quite good for the province. She also continued that it sure is proof that they have been doing the work that they were supposed to be doing and it also shows that they are reaching out and partnering with communities and employers in the area to make this happen. They are also pushing for more this year, 2019.
