It does seem like there is more to the usual benefits that
immigrants are bringing to a country like Canada that has been quite open to
welcoming these individuals to their own soil. The world knows about the usual
things that these individuals bring to the country in terms of benefits.
However, what the world does not know about would be that they also help bring
more employment opportunities in Canada.
According to a new research which was recently published,
companies that are owned by immigrants in Canada have been able to bring in
more job opportunities as compared to those businesses that are owned by Canada
locals. The research has also shown that the ones owned by immigrants have also
shown a higher rate when it comes to growth of the businesses. This surely
shows that immigrants are bringing in an additional benefit to the country and
the research’s results surely backs this up. It is no wonder why the government
of Canada is very appreciative and welcoming of immigrants on their soil.
The research that was
done
The results of the research had been published just quite
recently. This was done by Statistics Canada and the whole study took a decade
to complete. According to the people behind the study, they were working on
finding out the difference between companies that are owned by immigrants and
those that are owned by locals of Canada. Locals of Canada are defined as those
people who were born in the country and are not of immigrant descent. Those
immigrants that were part of the study were the ones who came to the country
starting in 1980.
The data that was used in the study started in 2003 and
ended in 2013. That is surely a decade’s worth of studying and collecting
information. They looked at companies that were owned and run by immigrants and
those who were owned by locals. According to the results, many companies that
were owned by immigrants have been able to create over 25% of the new jobs
under the private sector. Despite this, these companies only make up around 17%
of the total number of private companies in the whole country.
A look at the study
According to the people behind the study, the results had
definitely showed that immigrants who owned private companies were better at
creating jobs as compared to those who were born in Canada. They also disclosed
that the results showed that these immigrant owners did not do much laying off
of workers. There were definitely more jobs created on average for each company
that is owned by an immigrant as compared to those with owners that were born
in the country. Surely a great example of how immigrants are helping Canada.
