With New Zealand being one of the most popular destinations
for potential immigrants, the country is receiving a huge amount of
applications each day. Immigration New Zealand is the official agency of the
government that deals with all of the applications coming in. The agency has
recently disclosed that they are doing all of the ways that they possibly can
to process all of the applications that they have received. There has been a
backlog in the applications because Immigration New Zealand does not have
enough hands on deck to work on the numerous amounts of applications.
The agency has also been receiving feedback from business
owners who have been informing them of their need for immigrants. Immigrant workers
are a huge help for the businesses in New Zealand and the backlog meant that
there would also be a delay in these businesses getting the employees that they
need to keep the business running smoothly. This is why Immigration New Zealand
has recently announced that they are expanding their office in Hamilton to
handle the influx of applications and lessen the backlog.
Increasing the number of employees that handle visa applications
Immigration New Zealand has announced that they are going to
increase the number of employees and staff to help out handle all the visa
applications that the agency is receiving each day from those who want to be in NZ. The recent announcement
disclosed that there will be an additional 30% staff which would be joining the
Hamilton office. The delays are not making business owners and applicants happy
and the agency is doing its best to make sure that a solution is given.
Approximately a month ago, Immigration New Zealand has
pushed on with its plans of closing some of its offshore offices and bring all
of the work there back to the country. The Hamilton office of the agency has
been the one who took over all of the work that was being done in the Mumbai
office which is no longer operating because of this move from the agency. There
may have been additional delays because of the transfer of tasks and duties. But
with the move to add more employees to help out, this should help lessen the
backlogs and avoid further delays in the future.
The improvement in numbers
Compared to its original size before the Mumbai office was
closed down, the Immigration New Zealand Hamilton office has grown. In fact, it
is now triple its previous number. The office now has 130 total staff helping
out and doing important work. This is part of the restructuring that the agency
has been doing. The Mumbai office has not been doing well before it was closed
down with 12,000 applications still in the backlog. However, the changes have
lessened that number to less than 8,000 which is definitely a good improvement
in a short span of time.
