Eight universities of New Zealand have revealed that they have experienced a growth in the total amount of enrollments of immigrant students for the year 2018. The universities’ growth in enrollment for 2018 was higher as compared to the numbers in 2017. This is as per an analysis done on the reports from the universities in New Zealand. With this increase, the report on the increase in enrollment has also shown that immigrant students who have chosen to enroll in New Zealand has brought in around NZ $1.2 billion to the country’s economy.

Chris Hipkins works as the education minister of New Zealand. Even before the report has been released, Hipkins has already acknowledged the growth that the universities in the country have experienced. He has previously stated that for the first time in six years, the universities of New Zealand have become the biggest sector where there are immigrant students.

The results of the study

The newest report and analysis of education in the country has shown that for 2018 alone, New Zealand has been able to attract 30,007 immigrant students who have enrolled in one of the universities in the country. 38% of them were undergraduate immigrant students. 26% of these were students pursuing postgraduate studies. 17% were students taking a study abroad program. 9% of the total were research students. The remaining 10% were students on an exchange program.

Aside from these, the study has also been able to find out that the eight universities in New Zealand had enjoyed an increase in their revenue in 2018 which was higher as compared to their revenue in 2017. For 2018, the universities had received $492.8 million as revenue from these immigrant students who were studying on campus and this revenue was just for student fees. This definitely reflects that immigrant students who decide to study in New Zealand have been beneficial not only to the universities and colleges that they have enrolled in but also been beneficial to the country’s economy.

An analysis of the study

There has been an increase of 13.9% in terms of revenue that the universities in New Zealand have gotten for 2018 and that is as compared to the numbers in 2017. The analysis continued that they also combined the revenue, the enrollment fees, and the cost of living in the country. The rough estimate of the numbers show that of the total 30,007 immigrant students in the universities in New Zealand in 2018 have brought about a contribution of $1.2 billion to the country’s economy for that year alone. Experts have concluded that the numbers are a confirmation that NZ’s university sector has been the biggest source of revenue in the entire education industry in the country.
