Immigrant Students Soon Will Be Entering New Zealand, Though They Will Be Limited In Number

For several months, New Zealand has put a lockdown on its borders. No one was allowed inside and only essential travel was allowed. This was because of the pandemic caused by the disease known as COVID-19. With the virus causing the disease being transmitted via person-to-person contact, keeping people indoors, and limiting the movement of people was the best option to keep everyone safe.

Many people’s plans of moving to New Zealand had to be put to a halt as they were not allowed to enter the country. However, there is good news rising nowadays on the horizon as New Zealand has recently disclosed that it would soon be slowly opening up its borders, and one of the very first people allowed to enter the country would be a number of immigrant students. These would not be coming in huge numbers like before. Instead, they would only be limited in number and these immigrant students are the ones going to the country to have their postgraduate degrees as well as their PhDs. They will be arriving in the country starting this November.

The announcement from the government

The government of New Zealand has recently announced that the very first batch of immigrant students allowed to enter the country would be just around 250 in total. They have already had their papers and documents and approvals to enter the country but were not able to get into the country because of the lockdown. They have their study visas and, now, they will now be able to cross the New Zealand borders and start working on their degrees.

Immigrants like immigrant students are important in New Zealand. The government has always recognized just how important these individuals are. They also believe in the high quality of international education that is offered in New Zealand. By starting to allow immigrant students back to the country, New Zealand can now slowly work on its recovery and start rebuilding any damage done by the pandemic in terms of economy, education, labor, and the like.

Protocols in place

Despite reopening the borders and allowing immigrant students to enter New Zealand, the government is making sure that the people in the country are still safe. Given that some people who may already have the disease do not show any signs of having it, the government has made sure that there are safety and health protocols in place. The new immigrant students arriving in New Zealand will have to go through isolation and quarantine to make sure that they do not have the virus. The newcomers can only stay in quarantine and isolation facilities that are managed by the government. Also, the limited number of newcomers is to ensure that there is enough space in the facilities to handle all those who need to use them.
