Bringing back up the number of immigrants that enter the country is one of the main goals that Canada has after going through lockdowns and closed borders more than a year ago because of the pandemic. This pandemic may still be around but Canada has seemingly gotten hold of things and has put in effective health protocols and has also been pushing towards herd immunity via vaccinations. And it seems that all the country’s hard work is effective because the country now can start rebuilding after all the devastation that the pandemic has brought.
For June 2021, the country was able to achieve bringing in a
good number of new immigrants and permanent residents which is a great help for
Canada’s immigration plans. And according to Marco Mendicino, the immigration
minister of the country, the number recorded for June 2021 is the strongest so
far since the pandemic has started. He even continued to share that the country
is committed to bringing in the 401,000 goal of new permanent residents.
Working on immigration levels
Canada has a plan for immigration in the country and it is
known as the Immigration Levels Plan. This started this year, 2021, and would
be running up until 2023. With this plan, the goal of the government of Canada
would be to bring in 401,000 new immigrants at the very least for each year
from 2021 until 2023. This is quite a huge number actually as compared to the
previous goal which was at 341,000 new immigrants and this goal was before the
pandemic happened.
Because of the pandemic and the effects that it brought not
only to Canada but to the entire world, the country had to pick up the pieces. Immigrants
have proven to be really beneficial in helping Canada with a lot of things including
the growth of its population, bringing in more people to the labor market,
improving the average age of its population, and building the economy to
greater heights. And by bringing in more immigrants, Canada would then be able
to get the help that it needs to make the country go back to the progress it
enjoyed before the pandemic started.
How immigration fared in the past months
The 35,700 new immigrants who were welcomed in Canada in
June this year actually is the biggest number that Canada has been able to
achieve so far this year. In January, the country brought in around 24,600 new
immigrants. The number went down in February with around 23,400. By March, the
number continued to go down with just 22,400. There were 21,100 new immigrants
welcomed in April. And in May, the number totally went down to 17,100. It was a
good thing that June proved to be a great month for immigration to Canada with the
number that it was able to record.
