Visa Processing In New Zealand Ramping Up As Shortage Of Immigrant Workers Felt In Hotels And Restaurants

A lot of people who are interested in moving to a new country as immigrants are quite happy to know when there are countries that are open to welcoming a whole lot of immigrants. This is definitely good news because there are more countries that are aiming to bring in even more new immigrants to help with their economic recovery. The pandemic has negatively affected most economies. New Zealand is one of those countries that are now slowly reopening their borders for immigrants and many are working on their plans to move to the country.

Many industries in New Zealand are happy about this update. The pandemic has hit some industries hard, most especially the hotel and restaurant industries. That is why one of the latest updates from Immigration New Zealand is giving business owners in these industries great hope. According to Immigration Minister Michael Wood, the agency is ramping up the processing of visas for immigrants as the shortage of immigrant workers in the hospitality sector is being badly felt.

The situation in the hotel and restaurant industries

Wood has disclosed that businesses and companies in the country should start thinking of ways on how to attract the needed immigrant workers to join them. These businesses and companies may also want to start thinking about how to make them become more attractive to those looking for jobs. Bringing up the wages and securing safe working spaces are highly suggested. New Zealand business owners should be looking at these suggestions to help them get these individuals who can lend their skills and knowledge.

Leaders in these industries have also disclosed that many businesses have been experiencing a shortage of staff. With a lot fewer immigrant workers in the country because of the closed borders, a good number of establishments had to shorten their hours or had to cut back on some of the services that they usually offer. But with new immigrant workers coming in, these establishments can go back to providing quality services.

The processing of the visa applications

Since March this year, New Zealand has received 74,000 applications at least. However, only around 5% of these applications have been processed as of June 17. Immigration New Zealand still has a long way to go and that is why it is doing its best to ramp up the processing of these applications and start welcoming new immigrants to the country. One of the problems why the processing has been slow is the country’s online processing system which had been crashing perhaps because of the huge influx of applications received. Working on the system and tweaking it would help make the processing go faster and increase the number of applications processed.
