What is the Statue of Liberty?

This destination in the USA is one of the biggest sculptures in the country. It can be found on Liberty Island which is in New York Harbor, New York City. This status is made of copper and it was given to the people of the USA by the people of France and was dedicated on 28th of October 1886. The French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi is the man behind this amazing and humungous statue. The framework for the sculpture was put together by Gustave Eiffel.

Who is the woman in the statue? Well, it is Libertas, the liberty goddess of the Romans. She has a torch which she holds right above her head with her right hand. On her left hand, she has a tabula ansata where one can see JULY IV MDCCLXXVI, which stands for July 4, 1776. This was the date of the country’s Declaration of Independence. Today, this statue is the icon that stands for freedom.
